Under the renewed agreement, SBS will continue as the official Australian broadcast partner of the Kooyong Classic for the 2027 and 2028 tournaments, with coverage available nationally across SBS and SBS On Demand.
The partnership represents a significant endorsement and SBS’s ongoing support for the Kooyong Classic’s place within the Australian Summer of Tennis, while ensuring fans across the country can continue to access premium live sport on free-to-air television and streaming online.
In an increasingly fragmented sports media landscape, the continuation of free-to-air coverage reinforces the tournament’s commitment to growing the game and making world-class tennis accessible to Australian audiences, with the 2027 edition set to take place from 12-14 January 2027 at Kooyong.
Tournament Director Peter Johnston said the renewed partnership with SBS was an important milestone in the event’s continued evolution:
“The Kooyong Classic continues to attract many of the world’s leading men and women players, all looking for their final tune up of the Australian Open” Johnston said.
“To have SBS continue alongside us for the next two years is a strong vote of confidence in both the tournament, players and audience it continues to attract.”
“Free-to-air sport remains incredibly important in Australia, and we’re proud that tennis fans around the country will once again be able to experience the Kooyong Classic live on SBS and SBS On Demand.”
The renewed partnership follows a successful 2026 return for the Kooyong Classic which featured an elite international field including Grand Slam champions, Top 10 players and some of the sport’s most recognisable names, reinforcing the event’s reputation as one of the premier lead-up exhibition tournaments in world tennis.
SBS Director of Sport, Ken Shipp said: “We’re delighted to extend SBS’s partnership with the Kooyong Classic for a further two years and continue bringing this iconic event to Australians free-to-air and on SBS On Demand. We look forward to another outstanding lineup of international tennis stars taking to one of Australia’s most historic tennis venues in January.”
“The Kooyong Classic is a strong fit for SBS’s distinctive global sport offering, alongside major events including the FIFA World Cup™ and cycling’s Grand Tours. This partnership reflects SBS’s ongoing commitment to delivering world-class sport that is accessible to all Australians.”
Held annually at the Spiritual Home of Australian Tennis, the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, the event remains one of the sport’s premier lead-up exhibitions, combining elite international tennis with an intimate fan experience unique to the Kooyong Classic.
